Stupid...
via Gizmodo
I think all those new warning labels on cigarettes are dumb. If it's really that bad for people, we should just make it illegal. On a similar vein, why don't we just plaster pictures of car accidents all over the hoods of cars to remind people that driving is dangerous? Or maybe we should put pictures of homeless people on credit cards to remind people that spending too much money is bad. Or put pictures of fat people on fast food boxes to remind people that eating too much is bad. I can't believe I pay taxes for this kind of sh!tty, nonsensical legislation...

Random meeting...
I met this lady named Iris at dinner tonight. Paul and I had just finished our regular Back Bay ride and had a hankering for some ramen. Iris was sitting next to us with her husband/boyfriend and overheard us speaking about riding and struck up a conversation. It turns out she rode from Oregon to LA, 1300 miles...! Pretty cool stuff...

Bike affair...
It is always interesting to see where an obsession leads. What started out as an interesting thing to do in support of my riding habit has progressed into a quest for the easiest, most comfortable (and least blood-inducing) way to get smooth legs...

Religious Paradox...
In a conversation with someone about religion, I thought that it is hugely ironic that Christianity teaches you to give and serve with and ask nothing in return. This is quite untrue. You give and serve so you can go to heaven in return, otherwise you're just a sinner like all everyone else and you'll burn in hell. So much for being generous...

Euthanizing DVR shows...
I have a bunch of shows marked "Manually Delete" on my DVR. Most of them I've already watched and need to clear off to make room for more content. As I was going through the shows, I was presented with "Erase Now" or "Erase when space is needed." Of course, more space is need so either option means it the show will get deleted almost immediately. However, it just seems more dignified to select the "Erase when space is needed" option and let the DVR erase the show...

Choices...
There are good choices and bad choices. Good choices have good consequences, bad choices have bad consequences. Such a simple concept that not many people understand. So when I heard of a 4 year old who contemplates the differences between his choices, I was pretty amused...

Mulholland Challenge Results
My ride time was about 8:43 and my overall time (including rest stops) was 9:47. Not bad for 112 miles and 12000+ ft of climbing. There's definitely room for improvement...

Bikes
I've been spending a disproportionate amount of time looking at bicycles and bicycle accessories. I'm somewhat glad my common sense prevents me from purchasing everything I see on Amazon.com...

Unexpected
I met this cute, intelligent, funny, caring, girl at a wedding a few weeks ago. The chemistry was instant. We danced for a bit. She laughed at all my lame jokes. When the music stopped, we were the only ones left on the dance floor. We held hands as we left the dance floor. I'm not sure how or why but it was electrifying and comfortable at the same time. We sat down and talked for hours. It was easy. It was fun. It was fulfilling. Something just clicked. We fit together. It felt right. Neither of us wanted the extra complication, but neither of us mind it. I guess we'll have a go at it and see where this goes...

Things that make me smile...
Yesterday I had one of those days where it seemed like nothing was going to start off right. Immediately, things decided to go south when I zoned out and drove right past the freeway exit for work. I had set my Pandora to "Electronic" and was lost in my mid-90's depression. The light showers and general gloom of the weather didn't help either. The odd thing is that today isn't much different. Still overcast and it will probably rain later. In spite of this, I found myself smiling while I was driving to work. Did I get more sleep? No. Had I had my coffee before departing for work? No. It seems it was simply that I decided to drive the Lotus into work. I was blasting around corners and goosing the throttle when I saw open stretches of freeway. Not to say my Audi is a bad car that makes me cranky, it just doesn't have the same raw driving sensation that the Lotus has...
